The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction will be hosting a workshop Feb. 21 on earthquake risk in the Ottawa and Gatineau, Que. region.
The event, part of the organization’s ongoing Friday Forum series, will host Dariush Motazedian, an associate professor at Carleton University.
The workshop will include information on amplification measurement methodologies in the current Canadian building code.
In order to provide a valuable tool for mapping seismic soil classes, a Working Group on Seismic Hazard Microzonation in the Ottawa Region was established in 2005, ICLR notes. This research is providing microzonation tools for the development of earthquake hazard maps in eastern Canada.
Earthquake hazard maps are now available for the cities of Ottawa and Gatineau.
Interactive maps detailing information for 25,000 data points are accessible online through a Carleton University web site.
They are also available as free downloads of GSC Open Files #6191, #6273 and #7067 from the GSC publications website, Geoscan.
The workshop will be held at ICLR’s offices at 120 Richmond St. East in downtown Toronto from 10:00am to 11:30am.
The event will also be streamed live online via Webex webcast at https://iclr.webex.com/iclr/onstage/g.php?t=a&d=669040337
