ING Canada’s “Protect & Collect” Aeroplan program is still “flying high,” the company says, although the 500 “bonus” air miles originally offered to customers as part of the program have been eliminated to address RIBO concerns.
Launched in early September, ING’s Protect and Collect program was originally designed to offer 500 “Thank You” bonus miles upon enrolment, in addition to the miles earned for premium paid. However, ING voluntarily removed the 500 bonus miles from its program to address RIBO concerns that some might perceive the “bonus” miles as an “inducement.”
“ING’s ‘Protect & Collect’ program is very good news for brokers, who can use ING’s affiliation with Aeroplan as a way of differentiating and broadening their product offering to customers in a highly competitive marketplace,” the company said in its statement. “Based on the tremendous response by consumers to date, ING believes that the removal of the bonus offering will have minimal impact on the program and that it will continue to be a huge success.”
The program continues to offer customers one Aeroplan mile for every $2 in annual premium spent on car and home insurance. The program was designed to offer customers something back in appreciation of their business and continued loyalty, as well as help brokers attract and retain new business.
The miles are awarded monthly for as long as the ING policy remains in force. The program is being offered to most of ING Canada’s 3.5-million customers and its network of 2,800 independent brokerages across Canada.
“In the first eight weeks following the soft launch of the program, over 14,000 Aeroplan members have enrolled in the ING program and the number continues to grow,” the company said in a statement. “In addition to the outstanding support received from brokers, ING reports that its consumer Web sites and rating tools have also experienced a sudden and phenomenal increase in visitor traffic ever since the program was launched.”
ING says it will continue to work with its brokers to help them leverage the full benefits of the “Collect & Protect” program.
