Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction to host forum on building public confidence in emergency management

The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) in Toronto will be hosting a forum next month on building public confidence in emergency management.

The forum will feature Victoria’s first Inspector-General for Emergency Management, Tony Pearce

The ICLR workshop, entitled Building Public Confidence in Emergency Management, will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. EST on June 12. The event will feature a special guest from Australia, Tony Pearce, who was appointed Victoria’s first Inspector-General for Emergency Management in August 2014, noted information from ICLR.

For more than thirty years, Pearce (pictured below) has worked in intelligence, security and emergency/crisis management and in that time has held a number of senior roles in both state and federal government, including four years in the role of Director-General Emergency Management Australia, the ICLR information said. He holds graduate and post graduate qualifications in Management, Health Science, Emergency Management, and Public Administration and is a graduate of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government and the Victorian Leadership Development Centre.

Pearce was founding president and patron of the Oceania Council of the International Association of Emergency Managers and a Global Board member of the International Association of Emergency Managers. He is the current chair of the International Advisory Committee for the Centre for Disaster Management and Public Safety at Melbourne University, an advisory board member to the Monash University Disaster Resilience Initiative and a fellow of the Centre for Emergency and Disaster Management at Queensland University of Technology.

The workshop is part of the ICLR’s monthly Friday Forum series, “an informal discussion of current research and industry issues related to natural hazards,” the ICLR information said.
