Insurance industry recognized through new ICLR project

Today, at the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) annual general meeting, discussions reflected on a new program that exemplifies the role of the insurance industry and property preservation.
The program, Designed… for safer living, was created to improve disaster resilience in Canadian homes and secure the recognition of the leadership role that the insurance industry plays in promoting safer home design and construction. Paul Kovacs, executive director for ICLR, commented on the three elements behind the program safety research, influencing the construction of new homes and educating homeowners.
“Canada’s insurers, through ICLR, have begun to invest in a long-term, science-based research program to identify best practices for the design and construction of disaster resilient homes,” Kovacs said. “We helped to establish the Three Little Pigs Project at the University of Western Ontario This research program will shape the safer living programs of insurance companies in Canada and the United States, and will also influence building codes.”
