The CIP Society, part of the Insurance Institute, has launched a new initiative to improve and expand mentoring within the Canadian property and casualty insurance industry.

The new “Mentoring Advantage” website includes resources for mentors, mentees and organizations.

“For employers, mentoring provides the opportunity to tap into their own pool of experienced professionals to facilitate the transfer of knowledge, skills, ethics, and professionalism to less experienced workers,” the CIP Society notes on the site.

“While some employers have established formal mentoring programs, many others are looking for support. In addition, many members have self-identified as mentors and mentees and are ready to engage in informal mentoring relationships –but don’t know where to start.”

The resources included on the website offer advice on setting mentorship goals, as well as how mentees can identify a potential mentor, manage the relationship and address problems.

There is also information about defining the relationship and addressing potential confidentiality issues (such as when the mentor and mentee are from different organizations).

The site also includes information about organizational goals and building a mentoring model within an organization.

An ‘Experience Speak’ section on the website also allows mentors, mentees and organizations to share their mentorship experiences with the industry.
