Ontario’s Provincial Auto Theft Team has arrested and charged two men in connection with an international organized auto theft ring operating in the Greater Toronto Area.
The two men arrested in connection with the theft ring allegedly exported vehicles from Canada to Cambodia, says an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) release.
“2007 and 2006 model year, high-end sport utility vehicles, stolen from car dealerships and residences in York Region and Toronto were shipped overseas to Cambodia.”
Arrests resulted in the recovery of six vehicles valued at $350,000.
Criminal charges of possessing stolen property over $5,000 have been laid against both men.
The PATT investigation began in December 2006 and was a joint effort between the OPP, Toronto Police, York Regional Police, Vancouver Police (Auto Crime Enforcement Section), Canada Border Services Agency Vancouver and Winnipeg, and with assistance from the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
The accused are scheduled to appear in court in January 2007.
