JLT Canada names David Richards as CEO

Jardine Lloyd Thompson Canada Inc. (JLT Canada) has appointed David Richards as its chief executive officer, the firm announced Wednesday.

Richards succeeds Steve Thomas, who having completed the restructuring of JLT Canada over the last two years, has decided to step down and return to Australia.

JLT Canada is part of the Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group, one of the largest risk specialists and employee benefit consultants in the world.

Richards joined JLT Canada as executive vice president and National Specialty leader for Natural Resources in 2013. He has more than 24 years’ experience in the insurance and risk management industry and has held various senior management positions within the insurance broking sector, including being executive vice president for Aon Canada.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of David as chief executive of JLT Canada,” John Lloyd, JLT Canada’s chairman commented in the announcement. 

“His client advocacy, management experience and deep knowledge of the Canadian insurance industry is ideally suited to leading JLT Canada on its next phase of growth, supported by the strong senior management team that has been assembled over the last two years and a continued appetite from the JLT Group to invest in building out its Canadian operations. I would also like to thank Steve for his contribution in having led the restructuring of JLT Canada over the last two years.”

JLT Canada has more than 270 employees across Canada in Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Surrey, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria.
