Public donations to the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) will be facilitated by all 600 LCBO stores throughout Ontario from Aug. 1 until Aug. 31, 2005.
TIRF founded in 1964 is set to reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries by promoting and implementing effective research-based programs and policies, which largely focus on the problem of drinking and driving and monitoring changes in its magnitude; identifying high-risk groups of drinking drivers; and, identifying cost-effective meaningful solutions.
“The LCBO’s province-wide store network is a very effective way for us to raise awareness and funds for our organization,” Herb Simpson, President and CEO of TIRF.
TIRF is one of 26 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from the LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2005. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.115 billion in fiscal 2004-05, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.
