McDougall Insurance and Financial, billed as the largest independent insurance broker in eastern Ontario, just got bigger, purchasing Napanee’s largest independent brokerage firm, George A. Grant Insurance Brokers Ltd.
“This deal is especially gratifying, because it keeps independent insurance brokers like ourselves operating at a time when many are being purchased outright by large insurance companies,” McDougall Insurance president Ross McDougall told the Belleville Intelligencer in April. “We pride ourselves on the fact that we offer choice as an independent broker and will continue to do that as an even larger firm.”
McDougall Insurance has operated for 62 years and has more than 100 employees working in 14 different office locations, spanning from Oshawa to Ottawa Valley.
McDougall Insurance represents more than 25 insurance companies and has a gross annual insurance premium income of Cdn$65 million.
George A. Grant Insurance, also in business for 62 years, is the largest independent brokerage firm in Napanee, Ontario, with 12 employees.
McDougall told the Intelligencer that the Napanee office would continue to operate under its old name, but would be a division of McDougall Insurance.
Chuck Airhart, president of Grant Insurance, is continuing to manage the Napanee branch and will serve on the management team of McDougall as a shareholder.
