Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) is encouraging consumers to come forward and speak out against auto fraud to mark Fraud Prevention Month.

During the month of March, MPI will make an extra effort to remind consumers about its TIPS line. To make an anonymous call, consumers can call the line toll-free at 1-877-985-8477.

MPI’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) will investigate all suspicious claims. Last year, the SIU’s efforts resulted in fraud savings of more than $9 million for MPI auto insurance ratepayers.

“The combination of proactive anti-fraud strategies and raising people’s awareness will assist in reducing auto insurance fraud and identifying the individuals who commit this crime,” said Ted Hlynksky, vice-president of claims control and safety operations with MPI.
