The Manitoba Public Utilities Board (PUB) has approved Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI)’s overall 4% premium reduction for 2011-12, but has called on MPI to offer better vehicle premium discounts for drivers with the “best” experience.
The board also “direct(ed) a change in the attribution of claims for single vehicle accidents involving wildlife and livestock, a change that will benefit motorcycles while recognizing the similarity of such claims with those involving cyclists and pedestrians.”
The board said a more detailed analysis of the above change will follow its Dec. 8 order.
The board also amended MPI’s proposed 12.9% rebate for 2011-12. It approved a 10% premium rebate instead, recommending that the 2.9% difference be applied to “developing and enhancing road MPI’s safety programs and initiatives.”
