The Insurance Institute has announced its final “capstone” course for the Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional Program (FCIP).

Insurance Institute final course

The course, Integrative Learning for the P&C Insurance Sector, requires FCIP candidates to practically apply what they’ve learned in their previous five courses.

The final course will run over two consecutive semesters from September 2013 to April 2014.

The course is centered on the challenge of developing effective leadership talent. FCIP candidates will complete a project with their own employer or a different company that addresses the property and casualty industry’s leadership challenge.

“The final capstone course gives candidates the opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge in leading a project that tackles leadership-level issues,” Peter Hohman, president and CEO of the Insurance Institute noted.

“Employers get insight into the abilities of their employees to take a complex challenge within their organization, or within the industry as a whole, and apply the knowledge they’ve learned throughout the program,” he said.

The course includes assignments and online discussions, where candidates will reflect on their experience, according to Hohman.

Depending on the type of project, candidate can also engage a project sponsor and mentor for support throughout the course, the institute noted. Each candidate will present their final project to a panel of experts.
