Canadian insurance law firm Nicholl Paskell-Mede LLP (NPM) will be joining forces with U.K.-based law firm Clyde & Co. effective Sept. 1, 2011.
International law firm Clyde & Co. specializes in the areas of aviation, insurance, marine, energy, construction and infrastructure and trade and finance.
Founded in 1992, MPM specializes in insurance law and professional and civil liability defence work. It offers traditional claims-related service including litigation, arbitration and mediation, as well as non-traditional services such as claims monitoring, claims auditing, policy drafting and review and risk management consulting.
Following the merger, NPM’s team of 40 professionals, including 15 partners based in Montreal and Toronto, will become part of Clyde & Co.’s global network that currently includes 24 offices and 1,400 employees worldwide.
NPM will adopt the Clyde & Co. brand and banner.
“NPM was founded on the principle of providing our clients with specialized and tailored services in insurance law,” said NPM partner Carolena Gordon. “Becoming part of the world’s leading insurance law practice will help us do that better.
“While our approach to client services will remain unchanged, NPM clients will now benefit from a larger pool of talent, expertise and experience associated with a globally established law firm.”
Clyde & Co partner and board member James Burns added: “Canada is an extremely attractive market with a robust and diversified economy. The Canadian insurance market is going from strength to strength and the UK insurance market is building up its presence in Canada.
“NPM, as a top-rated Canadian insurance law firm with existing work for Lloyd’s of London syndicates, is a natural fit with Clyde & Co. We are delighted that Montreal and Toronto will be joining our network of offices, consistent with our strategy of providing a full-service to our clients in our core sectors in key strategic locations.”
