Ontario Bar Association honours insurance lawyers Geoffrey Adair and John Evans

The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) has bestowed its 2008 Award for Excellence in Insurance Law to Geoffrey D. Adair of Adair Morse LLP and John F. Evans of Evans Sweeny Bordin LLP.
The OBA award recognizes members for exceptional achievements, distinguished service and contributions in the areas of leadership, advocacy, teaching, writing and/or legislative reform.
Adair is an elected Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTLA), and has acted as lead counsel in more than 250 jury and non-jury trials in Ontario; in addition, he has argued in excess of 100 cases before the Ontario Court of Appeal.
His practice areas include major tort and property damage litigation, commercial insurance litigation matters, professional (including medical) negligence claims, product liability matters, corporate/commercial litigation, as well as libel and slander, directors’ and officers’ claims and actions for and against insurers.
Evans is a senior counsel, having practised advocacy for more than 35 years. He was selected as a Queen’s Counsel in 1980 and has been certified as a specialist in civil litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1988, when the designation was created.
Evans practices in southwestern Ontario in the areas of corporate commercial litigation, professional negligence and product liability.
He was president of The Advocates’ Society of Ontario in 1990-91 and received the OBA’s Award for Distinguished Service in 2001.
