The 2011 Operation Red Nose (ORN) program in Ontario saw an increase of more than 15% in the total number of kilometres driven over 2010. And yet, there were zero collisions, zero injuries and zero fatalities in all participating areas during operating hours in 2011.
The program, sponsored by the Ontario Safety League, Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, ran in 15 Ontario communities from Nov. 25 to Dec. 31.
During the 2011 holiday season, a total of 18,202 Ontario citizens received a safe ride home from ORN and more than 5,800 volunteers participated.
A total of 236,000 kilometres were driven, an IBAO press release says.
