This holiday season, more than 6,500 Ontarians were driven home by Operation Red Nose – a volunteer designated-driver service for holiday partiers.
“That’s 6,500 occasions where someone was at risk of drinking and driving but made the smart choice instead,” Mark Yakabuski, vice-president,Federal Affairs and Ontario, Insurance Bureau of Canada. “Canada’s home, car and business insurers are proud to have done their part to make Ontario roads safer, and we applaud everybody we drove home for giving us a call.”
In addition to contributing $29,000 to the Ontario program this year, Canada’s home, car and business insurers supported Operation Red Nose by raising public awareness of the program through paid advertising, mobilizing volunteer drivers from insurance companies, and providing insurance coverage for all Red Nose volunteers.
York Region Police Chief Armand La Barge, president of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, congratulated Canada’s home, car and business insurers and Ontario Safety League for their sponsorship of Operation Red Nose.
“Canada’s home, car and business insurers and the Ontario Safety League should be commended for their efforts,” La Barge says. “The public awareness campaign supported by the insurance industry under the Be Smart. Be Safe. banner was a welcome addition as well.”
Be Smart. Be Safe. is a national injury prevention campaign from Canada’s home, car and business insurers. The campaign team will travel to many communities across the country and demonstrate to Canadians what they can do to prevent injuries in the home, on the road and at play.
