QBE European Operations, a specialist business insurer, will open an office in Toronto for the business it writes through Lloyd’s for the Canadian commercial insurance market.
David Edgar has been named general manager of the new branch. The Toronto team will develop new business from the Canadian market, and provide local support and claims handling service. Business will continue to be written through Lloyd’s, says a QBE release.
According to BestWire, 25% of Lloyd’s casualty business in Canada is underwritten by QBE.
Currently, QBE’s commercial products available to the Canadian market include general liability, professional liability, financial lines, marine energy and inland marine, construction all risks, aviation, kidnap and ransom, political risks and terrorism and bloodstock and livestock.
QBE plans to expand its offerings to the Canadian marketplace, particularly to increase its small- and medium-sized enterprise E&O business, a QBE release says.
“This development means the Canadian insurance market will have easy access to the on-hand business development resources and claims support that a local office can more efficiently deliver, while receiving the expertise, innovation and financial security associated with a Lloyd’s solution,” Edgar said in a release.
