The RIMS Canada Council (RCC), the standing committee representing the Canadian chapters of The Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Inc., has approved a new mission and strategic goals.

The new mission statement and goals were developed by the RCC at its annual planning meeting in January 2012 and approved by the RCC in February.

The new RCC mission statement says: “The RIMS Canada Council addresses the interests of Canadian RIMS members and their chapters in support of RIMS mission — to advance risk management for your organization’s success.”

The statement includes new wording about “your organization’s success.” This serves as an invitation to risk managers from all organizations, regardless of size, to benefit from the vast expertise of the people involved in the RCC group, RCC chairwoman Betty Clark says.

“It’s to get across to the different organizations that there is a lot of expertise within the [RCC] group for them to be able to tap into our resources, and it’s good to become a member for that reason,” Clark says. “By using the word ‘organization,’ the small- or medium-sized organizations fit. The main thing is to be inclusive, and for people to know that we have lots of diverse backgrounds among all of our members.

“It’s phenomenal how much talent we have and you can get an answer from any one of us. It’s only a matter of networking.”

The RCC also changed its strategic goals as follows:

• Achieve effective volunteer leadership.

• Cultivate a vibrant, informed and engaged membership.

• Develop and deliver risk management education, thought leadership, tools and resources.

• Increase the influence, advocacy and profile of risk management in Canada as part of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.
