DENVER, Colo. – About 100 risk and insurance professionals from around the world gathered Sunday for the 13th Annual RIMS Community Service Day, an event that allows attendees of RIMS 2014 Annual Conference & Exhibition, being held April 27-30 in Denver, to give back to the local community.

Sponsored by Zurich, participants worked with Savio House, founded in the early 1960s as an orphanage, now a non-profit that intervenes in the lives of families to strengthen them so they may keep their children and remain an intact family.

Risk practitioners spent the day painting, landscaping and cleaning at Savio House on Apr. 27, notes a statement from RIMS, the risk management society, a global not-for-profit organization representing more than 3,500 industrial, service, non-profit, charitable and government entities around the world. RIMS has a membership of more than 11,000 risk management professionals in 60-plus countries.

A second Community Service project will be held April 29 in the Exhibit Hall at the Colorado Convention Center.

Again sponsored by Zurich, the project will benefit the Resource Area for Teaching, a local non-profit organization that supports thousands of Colorado teachers by providing them with well-equipped teacher workspace, professional development and recycled teaching materials that are 80% to 90% lower than retail prices. Risk professionals will lend a hand by assembling science kits for local schools.

“RIMS is proud to support the Savio House and Resource Area For Teaching and contribute to their efforts to assist those in need,” Mary Roth, executive director or RIMS, says in the statement. “I’d also like to thank Zurich for sponsoring RIMS Community Service Day events, allowing us to continue this important conference tradition,” Roth adds.

“Zurich is committed to helping build resilient and sustainable communities, and here in North America this includes working to support the health and welfare of children in need,” notes Dan Riordan, Zurich CEO of Global Corporate in North America. “I am proud of the Zurich employees and all RIMS volunteers who will be joining me on Sunday to make a difference in the lives of Savio House families and working throughout the week to support area teachers.”

This is the third consecutive year that Zurich has sponsored RIMS Community Service Day activities.
