SGI Canada has begun selling insurance products and services in Alberta, the Crown corporation announced in an online posting.
“We’re very pleased to enter the Alberta market as it holds great potential for growth for SGI Canada,” SGI Canada president Jon Schubert said. “We’re already familiar with Alberta because of its close proximity and similarities to Saskatchewan, especially in the rural areas.”
SGI Canada says it will be doing business in Alberta the same way it does in Saskatchewan, by selling its products through a network of independent insurance brokers. “SGI Canada is signing up 50 brokers across Alberta and offers a full suite of products, including home, farm, business, surety and automobile insurance,” the corporation announced.
SGI Canada is the competitive arm of SGI, selling property and casualty insurance products in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and now Alberta.
“Selling SGI Canada products in other provinces spreads geographic risk, creates and maintains jobs here at home and increases profits for Saskatchewan shareholders,” Schubert said. “It makes SGI Canada a more financially stable company meaning Saskatchewan shareholders and customers are better protected from the inherent volatility of the insurance industry.”
