SGI is implementing a graduated driver licencing program for motorcycle drivers.
The Motorcycle Graduated Driver’s Licencing (MGDL) program will be implemented on June 18. It will have three stages: Learner, Novice 1 and Novice 2.
As riders move through the stages, they will see fewer restrictions until they graduate to an experienced ‘M’ endorsed motorcycle licence, an SGI release says.
Motorcyclists who already have the ‘M’ endorsement will not be part of the MGDL program. Those who already have an endorsement 6 (motorcycle learner) on their driver’s license will automatically be placed in the MGDL learner stage.
In the past, motorcyclists didn’t have to demonstrate any road skills to drive a motorcycle in Saskatchewan. Now they will be required to take a road test to move through the MGDL program, the release adds.
