Co-operators General Insurance Company is undergoing a number of changes to its senior management team, as three of its members are moving on to retirement.
The senior management team oversees all of the companies in The Co-operators group of companies.
Dan Thornton, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Co-operators Life Insurance Company, sister company to Co-operators General, will retire effective April, 2007. He will celebrate his 38th anniversary with The Co-operators on Sept. 23.
Kevin Daniel will become senior vice president and chief operating officer of Co-operators Life Insurance Company, effective April 2007. He recently celebrated his 20th anniversary with The Co-operators; most recently, he served as the chief financial officer for The Co-operators Group.
Peter Parkin, senior vice president and chief operating officer of The Sovereign General Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Co-operators General Insurance Company, will be retiring effective Feb. 28, 2007. He will have been with The Co-operators for 13 years, serving the past five of them as chief financial officer.
Also, Vivien Fong, senior vice president and chief information officer, will be leaving the organization when she retires in October, having served with The Co-operators for more than four years. “She has played a key role in our strategic direction and has provided tremendous leadership to the technology infrastructure in support of this direction,” the company announced.
Robert Wesseling will be Fong’s successor, effective in October 2006. Wesseling has obtained B.A. with distinction in Math, an MSc. in Applied Stats and his C.I.P. designation. Most recently, he served as the company’s vice president, personal lines and packaged products.
In a release, The Co-operators noted the changes will result in a vacancy in the role of the company’s chief financial officer, as well as in the chief operating officer of The Sovereign. “The company will undertake a search to fill these roles immediately.”
