The General Insurance OmbudService appoints Glenn Williamson as Executive Director

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the General Insurance OmbudService (GIO) recently announced the appointment of Glenn Williamson as the first Executive Director of GIO, effective May 2nd, 2005. Williamson’s role will be to manage GIO’s strategic operations and enhance GIO’s profile with federal and provincial governments, key stakeholders, consumers and related consumer organizations.
Lea Algar, chair of the General Insurance OmbudService said, “Glenn Williamson’s appointment as Executive Director is an important step in our investment to serve Canadian consumers. We welcome Glenn as a visionary leader who will champion GIO’s key mandate and objectives.”
Williamson brings to GIO a background in industry best practices on consumer-complaint handling, having served as Ombudsman liaison officer for various insurance companies and developed complaints handling protocol and reporting mechanisms. He also held senior leadership roles in the industry. He was regional vice-president, Ontario for Optimum Frontier Insurance Company, underwriting manager for General Insurance Company of Royal Bank of Canada, branch operations/projects,Ontario and Western Canada, for General Accident Assurance Co.; and operations superintendent for State Farm Insurance.
GIO was incorporated on May 31st 2002 as a federal not-for-profit corporation. GIO offers bilingual services across Canada to consumers and its140-member companies. GIO is an independent organization for consumer dispute resolution of home, car and business insurance. GIO assists customers and their insurance companies resolve differences in a fair, independent and impartial environment.
