Three-quarters of U.S. employees feel their employers are not well prepared for a natural disaster, an FM Global survey has found.

Conducted in May 2012, the national study commissioned by FM Global included 1,364 respondents. Eight hundred and forty-seven employees came from small to medium-sized enterprises (up to 1,000 employees) and 517 employees in large enterprises (more than 1,000 employees).

Overall, 75 % of employees reported that their employer was “not well prepared” for a natural disaster. Eighty-one per cent of respondents in small or medium-sized businesses said they felt this way, compared to 64% of respondents in large enterprises.

Seventy-two per cent reported that they would not feel safe in their workplace during a natural disaster, and 71% said they were “not fully confident” their employers could bounce back quickly from a disaster.
