A storm system resulting in severe weather watches for southwestern Ontario spawned three tornadoes that damaged more than 100 homes in southeast Michigan on Mar. 16.

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) posted reports of three separate tornadoes ripping through Michigan, one in Dexter, one in Ida and another in Columbiaville. There were no reports of injuries or fatalities.

The NOAA notes the Dexter tornado destroyed 13 homes and damaged more than 100, including damage to trees and power lines. Damage crews had not yet analyzed the damage to determine the strength of the tornado.

Media reports estimated the wind speeds of the Dexter tornado at 136 mp-h. If accurate, this would rank as an F2 tornado on the Fujita Scale.

It would also rank the earliest tornado of this strength to hit the state of Michigan.
