The Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) is launching a study on female impaired driving offenders.

The study is scheduled for completion by the end of 2011, a TIRF release says.

The objective of the project is to share with frontline criminal justice practitioners the current research and strategies for dealing with this population.

Researchers will:

  • summarize the state-of-knowledge regarding female impaired drivers;
  • highlight the types of programs and sentencing alternatives currently available for female offenders; and
  • summarize research relating to the effectiveness of programs/sanctions/treatment options for women, including those that are gender-sensitive.

The project may also include focus groups with female-impaired drivers to gauge their experiences.
