The Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) will conduct a follow-up study to its recent report on female drunk drivers.
TIRF released a report in December 2011 that found the number of women in the United States arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) increased nearly 30% in the decade between 1998 and 2007.
TIRF’s follow-up study, likely to be completed by the end of 2012, will:
•analyse a variety of state data sources, including collision, arrest, court, probation and treatment data, as available;
•Cconduct focus groups with first and repeat offenders to gauge their attitudes, behaviours and characteristics; and
•conduct interviews with practitioners representing criminal justice and treatment agencies to identify how female drunk drivers are managed in the DWI system.
