Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) is sticking with its April 2011 tropical storm forecast, which predicts an active hurricane season in 2011, with hurricane activity this year to be about 25% above the long-term (1950-2010) norm.
TSR’s forecast for the 2011 hurricane season, which starts on June 1 and ends Nov. 1, predicts 14 tropical storms. Between seven and eight of these storms will be hurricanes, and between three and four will be intense hurricanes (Category 3-5), the tropical storm forecaster predicts.
TSR said there is a moderate (55%) probability that the 2011 Atlantic hurricane could be in the top one-third of years historically.
TSR does not forecast the number of intense hurricanes that might make U.S. landfall.
