The Spencer Educational Foundation Inc. recently established a memorial scholarship fund in honour of Thomas M. Regan, a former RIMS chapter president, who was killed on September 11, 2001, in the World Trade Centre attacks. The New York Chapter of RIMS has donated US$100,000 for the scholarship, which will be presented at the chapter’s upcoming breakfast meeting in New York City, on June 16. The scholarship will annually award US$5,000 to students who meet criteria as undergraduates, studying risk management, enrolled in a program in either New York, New Jersey or Connecticut.

CARSTAR Collision Repair Centers across Canada raised $50,115.86 for local chapters of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and local fundraising groups at the second annual CARSTAR “Soaps it Up for Cystic Fibrosis” National Car Wash held Saturday, June 4th, 2005. Joshua Morrow, an actor on the TV soap Young & The Restless, was the celebrity guest on hand for the kick-off event at CARSTAR Collision Repair Centers in Ottawa and Montreal on Friday, June 3rd, 2005. Many other local celebrities and media personalities across the nation also helped raise profile for the event and even helped wash a few cars.

TD Insurance Home and Auto (TDI) is has created new jobs and is cementing its relationship with the community. The newly enlarged office is a client service center that currently employs 125 people and handles some 250,000 client calls every year. Its primary function is to provide service to clients from Ontario and Atlantic Canada. In October 2004, the company began building an extension to its 9,700 square foot facility. During the recent ceremony inaugurating the center, TDI’s senior manager in Saint John Brian M. Sypher, presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to Laurie Flood, executive director, St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.
