The Autorite des Marches Financiers (AMF) found Sylvain Desgens guilty of five charges under the act respecting the distribution of financial products and services. Desgens was found guilty of acting as a representative in insurance of persons without holding a certificate issued for such purpose by the AMF and offering insurance products, thereby violating sections 3, 12, 461 and 485 of the act.
The AMF is the regulatory and oversight body for Quebec’s financial sector.

CBL Data Recovery Technologies, a Markham-based data recovery service provider, is extending a 35% discount to commercial and residential computer users in Western Canada affected by recent flooding and rain.
If data back-ups are kept on CDs or DVDs offsite, the risk of data loss is dramatically reduced, but if business and residential users find flood-damaged PCs and servers, they should know data is very resilient and recoverable, a CBL statement says.
“Business owners shouldnt delay taking the necessary actions to have the hard drives of their computers evaluated by data recovery experts to minimize business interruptions,” Bill Margeson, president and CEO of CBL, said in a statement.
The discount for services is extended until the end of July 2007.
