The Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) Relay For Life committee has increased its 2010 fundraising goal to $444,000 — double the amount raised in 2009.

Relay For Life is an outdoor community event run by the Canadian Cancer Society in communities across the country.  It is a 12-hour overnight event, and has proven to be the most meaningful and uplifting WICC fundraiser to date, according to WICC.

It is an opportunity to get together with colleagues, family and friends to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer and fight back to find a cure.

The WICC Ontario Chapter is directing its support towards “WICC HQ” on Jun. 25 at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York.  Hundreds of members of the insurance industry will be involved as part of the WICC HQ event or at other Relay For Life sites across the country.

A list of insurance industry teams participating under the “WICC” banner can be found at http://bit.ly/bq9YqB, where team or pledges to individuals can also be made.  One hundred per cent of the pledges will be directed to Canadian Cancer Society research through WICC.

According to the WICC Relay For Life committee, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the insurance industry to contribute to the fight against cancer.  WICC is excited to bring the insurance industry together in this way.  Here is a chance for you to take action in the fight against cancer, enjoy a memorable event with colleagues and demonstrate our industry’s ability to unite behind a worthy cause.
