Wind and rainstorms batter New Brunswick and Nova Scotia

A fierce winter windstorm blew through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on Dec. 13-14, dropping more than 100 mm of rain over a 48-period in some places and leaving more than 80,000 without power at one point during the storm.
Environment Canada reported various areas of Nova Scotia were hit by wind gusts of between 106 km-h and 124 km-h over the course of Dec. 14.
Gale force wind warnings remained in effect for the northeast part of the province on Dec. 15.
Media reports show trees fallen on cars and the roofs of houses in Nova Scotia. In Windsor, Nova Scotia, the wind blew the roof off the Kingsway Garden retirement home.
In Moncton, New Brunswick, the Red Cross said part of the roof on an 18-unit apartment building collapsed.
Rainfall exceeded more than 45 mm in several areas of Nova Scotia on Dec. 14 and reached as high as 128 mm in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
In New Brunswick, St. Stephen received 173 mm of rain between Dec. 12 and 14, while Fredericton saw 106 mm over the same period.
In Fredericton, New Brunswick, dozens of people were evacuated from their homes as a result of flooding.
