Intact’s BrokerLink makes double acquisition

BrokerLink has announced the acquisition of two brokerages: the Athabasca, Alta. branch of JDR Insurance and Guelph, Ont.-based Amplex Insurance Brokers Ltd.

Both transactions were effective May 1 and terms of the transactions were not disclosed, BrokerLink said in a press release Thursday. BrokerLink is one of the largest property and casualty insurance brokerages in the country and BrokerLink companies are subsidiaries of Intact Financial Corporation. It currently has 140 offices and more than 1,800 employees across Ontario, Alberta and Atlantic Canada.

For its part, Amplex is a general insurance brokerage offering personal and commercial lines of insurance including auto, home, tenant, condo, cargo, motorcycle and trucking. It has been in business 1980.

Amplex president Bob Briden will move to BrokerLink to assist during the transition process. BrokerLink also welcomes Bijma Dass, a registered insurance advisor, who will continue to service customers as part of the BrokerLink team.

JDR Insurance – Athabasca is a division of Tailor Made Insurance Services. Tailor Made is a family-owned and operated general insurance brokerage that has been servicing Sherwood Park, Alta. and area since 1993. As independent insurance brokers, Tailor Made specializes in farm insurance products, but also offers home, auto, commercial, recreational, boat & motorcycles, and travel insurance.

BrokerLink has made a number of acquisitions recently. On Mar. 1, it closed the acquisitions of Condotta, Merrett and Company Insurance Brokers Inc. in Ontario as well as Nicolet Insurance in Alberta. Since Jan. 1, BrokerLink has closed seven brokerage acquisitions (not including the two most recent), Paul Meyer, BrokerLink’s head of acquisitions, told Canadian Underwriter Mar. 12.
