On March 6, 2006 students were left without educators as a result of an OPSEU strike. In order to assist students in the Insurance Diploma program at Mohawk College, the Hamilton/Niagara Chapter of the Insurance Institute of Ontario brought aid. Chapter manager Dawn Elliott made arrangements for college students who were planning to write the Insurance Institute of Canada’s ‘Chartered Insurance Professional’ exam to attend classes at the local chapter office. Facilitators from the chapter’s evening program made arrangements with their employers to be present at the Chapter to meet with the students. All facilitators donated their time.

RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. recently promoted Ross Curtis to the position of senior vice president of the Company’s Catastrophe Reinsurance unit. Curtis, now responsible for underwriting international property catastrophe reinsurance business, joined Renaissance in 1999 as a catastrophe reinsurance analyst and later became an International property catastrophe underwriter. Curtis is an active participant in the ongoing development of the Company’s proprietary Renaissance Exposure Management System (REMS(C)) and additional portfolio analysis methodologies.Curtis earned an M.A. in Philosophy from University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
