The Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) has created a Disciplinary Information Committee that will publish disciplinary data from regulators across Canada.
The committee will look into ways to make disciplinary data across the country available and accessible from a central source and present recommendations to CCIR, according to notes from CCIR’s spring meeting.
The committee’s first priority is to survey insurance regulators to develop a common understanding and definitions of the disciplinary actions to be included in any centralized source.
Other notable items from CCIR’s spring meeting notes include:
•The council will publish a report by the Intermediary Regulation Working Group later this spring. The group was established in 2009 to examine the quality of compliance monitoring by insurance companies of their intermediaries, including the extent of verification, for individual variable insurance contracts.
• The council will release its new Strategic Plan this summer. The Strategic Planning Committee met with stakeholders in March to discuss the 2011-14 CCIR Strategic Plan. As a result of those meetings and the feedback received, CCIR has approved several updates to the Strategic Plan outline.
