Announcing the Retirement of John Garner – A Fond Farewell

TORONTO, June 25, 2018 /insPRESS/ – Following an outstanding and exemplary insurance career spanning four decades, John Garner will be retiring from his role as CFO of Trisura Guarantee on June 30.

John co-founded Trisura in 2005, and played a crucial role in our early formation as a fledgling insurance company and has been instrumental ever since in our ongoing success as one of Canada’s fastest growing and most profitable insurers. His passion for the insurance industry, tireless work ethic, keen and insightful business mind, close relationships with a deep understanding of our brokers, great sense of humour and absolute integrity have helped shaped Trisura’s unique culture. Many of you have had the good fortune of getting to know John over the years and I am sure you will agree he is the epitome of a gentleman.

John has enjoyed a remarkable career. He attended McGill University as an undergraduate, then received a Master’s in Industrial Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and became CA in 1978. John began work with Clarkson Gordon where he was a consultant to insurance brokerages across Canada and later accepted a senior role with Trivest, leading a team which invested in, and provided advisory services to, insurance brokers in the 1980’s and 90’s. After Trivest, John became CFO of Wellington Guarantee and subsequently London Guarantee where he remained until the company was sold in 2002. John then returned to his insurance broker consulting roots with Cookson Walker, until he helped found Trisura Guarantee in 2005, assuming the role of CFO.

John’s guidance and counsel will be missed by all of us at Trisura. Fortunately, we are in good hands with the promotion of David Scotland to CFO of Trisura Guarantee. David has done a tremendous job for Trisura as our VP Finance and Controller over the past 8 years, and has been mentored by John with this ultimate transition in mind. Although David has big shoes to fill, he is very capable and knowledgeable and is backed by an extraordinary team and we are confident he will flourish in his new role.

Ce n’est qu’un au revoir

Au terme d’une carrière exceptionnelle et exemplaire qui s’étend sur quatre décennies, John Garner, directeur des finances de Trisura Garantie, prendra sa retraite le 30 juin prochain.

En tant que co-fondateur de Trisura en 2005, John a joué un rôle primordial à nos tout débuts, alors que Trisura était une jeune compagnie d’assurance qui prenait son envol. Sa contribution à notre succès nous a permis de nous classer parmi les compagnies d’assurance canadiennes connaissant la plus forte croissance et la meilleure rentabilité. Sa passion pour l’industrie de l’assurance, son immuable éthique du travail, son sens aiguisé des affaires, les relations qu’il entretenait avec nos courtiers et sa profonde compréhension de leurs besoins, son merveilleux sens de l’humour et son intégrité sans faille ont tous contribué à bâtir la culture unique de Trisura. Plusieurs d’entre vous ont eu la chance de faire la connaissance de John au fil des ans et conviendront, j’en suis sûr, qu’il est l’exemple du parfait gentleman.

La carrière de John est remarquable. Il a fréquenté l’Université McGill comme étudiant de premier cycle, après quoi il a obtenu une maîtrise en relations industrielles de la London School of Economics and Political Science, puis le titre professionnel de C.A. en 1978. John a débuté sa carrière chez Clarkson Gordon en tant que consultant auprès de cabinets de courtage en assurance à travers le Canada. Par la suite, il a occupé un rôle de consultant principal chez Trivest dans les années 1980 et 1990, où il dirigeait une équipe de conseils et investissement visant les cabinets de courtage en assurance. Après son passage chez Trivest, John est devenu directeur des finances de Wellington Guarantee, puis de London Guarantee jusqu’à sa vente, en 2002. À ce moment, John est revenu à ses racines de consultant auprès de cabinets de courtage en assurance chez Cookson Walker jusqu’en 2005, soit l’année durant laquelle il a contribué à la fondation de Trisura Garantie en assumant les fonctions de directeur des finances.

Ses conseils et ses qualités de mentor nous manquerons à tous chez Trisura. Heureusement, nous sommes entre bonnes mains puisque Davis Scotland vient d’être promu au poste de directeur des finances de Trisura Garantie. Au cours des huit dernières années, David a accompli un travail formidable en tant que vice-président, finance et contrôleur. Il a été bien épaulé par John en vue de cette transition. Bien que David ait hérité de lourdes responsabilités, il a les aptitudes et les connaissances requises pour s’en acquitter, sans compter qu’il bénéficie de l’appui d’une équipe extraordinaire. Nous sommes persuadés qu’il connaîtra beaucoup de succès dans son nouveau rôle.
