Canada’s #1 insurance publication relaunches with bold new look and editorial mandate

October 10, 2018   by Newcom Media Inc.

TORONTO, Oct. 10, 2018 /insPRESS/ – Canadian Underwriter magazine relaunched today with the publication of its October 2018 issue, introducing an energetic look, functional design and editorial mandate expressed by its new tagline: “Your Guide to Insurance Success.”

Now in its 85th year, Canadian Underwriter has been re-engineered to meet the demands of today’s insurance professionals, who crave the more of knowledge that will help them get ahead but have less time to acquire it. The new Canadian Underwriter is designed to deliver practical insights in greater numbers, and to make those insights more easily accessible.

“Whether you’re a broker, an underwriter, risk manager or claims professional, we want Canadian Underwriter to give you more good ideas per minute than any other source,” said David Gambrill, the magazine’s editor-in-chief. “Against that measure, I think the new CU is hard to beat – but it’s far more enjoyable to read as well.”

Advertisers also benefit from the changes in more ways than one. “Obviously, we’ll engage more deeply with our readers by employing the best editorial practices,” said Ian Portsmouth, managing director/publisher of Canadian Underwriter. “More important is whom the new Canadian Underwriter will connect with. The increased editorial focus on innovation and improvement will attract more of the people who embrace and drive change rather than settle for the status quo. It’s the most lucrative audience that advertisers can reach.”

The October 2018 relaunch issue features the results of the 2nd annual National Broker Survey, and debuts the following departments and regular features:

  • “Declarations” starts the magazine off with helpful analysis of emerging trends, hot topics and recent news. Its goal: to improve insurance professionals’ understanding of the opportunities and challenges created by today’s dynamic insurance environment.
  • The “CU Interview” is an extended conversation with today’s (or tomorrow’s) biggest names in insurance, revealing the wisdom they’ve accumulated from the past, their vision for the future and the plans they have now to shake up the market.
  • “Handbook” is where readers can go to learn not only what to do to be more successful, but how to do it. That guidance is provided by subject-matter experts from the industry and Canadian Underwriter‘s own editorial team, comprising the most experienced insurance journalists in Canada.
  • On the back page of every issue, “How I Did It” tells the success stories of Canadian insurance leaders in their own words, with a focus on the strategies they put to the test at make-or-break points in their careers.

The new Canadian Underwriter will continue to deliver loads of valuable information and inspiration through its feature-length stories and special editorial packages, such as its annual Broker Growth Guide, the Future of Claims and Future of Risk reports, and the upcoming CEO Outlook survey of insurance leaders. Subscribers can also look forward to CU’s annual specialty markets guide (aka the National Insurance Marketer) and its 86th annual Stats Guide – both coming in mid-2019.

Canadian Underwriter is part of the Insurance Media Group, which includes CanadianUnderwriter.ca, the Canadian Underwriter Daily newsletter, Claims Canada magazine and i-Hire, a leading insurance job board. It is published by Toronto-based Newcom Media Inc.
