CARSTAR receives help from Celine Dion in Facebook initiative

CARSTAR Collision Centres, one of the country’s largest franchise networks in the collision repair industry, has been joined by Celine Dion to raise funds and awareness of cystic fibrosis online.
Since August 2010, CARSTAR has been collecting “Likes” on the company Facebook page (www.facebook.com/carstarcanada) to raise awareness and money for cystic fibrosis (CF). Every “Like” the CARSTAR Automotive Facebook page receives, CARSTAR will donate $1 to CF. This online initiative has collected over 8000 “Likes” in four months and has caught the attention of Canadian singer and icon, Celine Dion. Her official website released a blog post sharing the Facebook initiative information and encouraging people to click “Like” to donate.
“Celine is one of the biggest supporters of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” said Lisa Mercanti-Ladd, AVP of Marketing and Client Services at CARSTAR. “We are thrilled and honoured that she is assisting us in our campaign. With her help, and the help of all of those who have been affected by CF, we know we can reach our goal.”
President and CEO of CARSTAR, Sam Mercanti, issued a challenge to Facebook users everywhere, saying that if the company’s Facebook page reached 10,000 Likes, he would donate an extra $5000 to the cause, making the total donation $15,000 for the treatment and research of CF.
“Cystic fibrosis has to be stopped,” said Mercanti. “CARSTAR and our partners have been raising funds for CF for ten years and we will not stop until a cure is found. With the help of Celine Dion and everyone who has made a donation, we know CF will end.”
