Massive flood-management project planned for Manitoba’s large lakes

Copyright : Sergii SverdielovWork will soon begin on part of a massive flood-management project that will involve building a new channel to Lake St. Martin from Lake Manitoba, and then on to Lake Winnipeg.

Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler says before crews can really dig into the outlet channels an access road must be built.

Schuler says most of the road work will be done next year.

He says work on the $540 million project will be done by 2025.

Unprecedented flooding in 2011 caused widespread devastation to Lake St. Martin First Nation and other Indigenous communities.
