Art Vesterfelt Joins Itech as Director of Dangerous Goods

Art will support Itech’s dangerous goods emergency response teams on incidents involving dangerous goods, assist in training and mentoring of staff, and managing Itech’s ERAPs under Transport Canada.

Itech Environmental is pleased to welcome Art Vesterfelt to the role of Director of Dangerous Goods.  Art brings over 38 years of experience in Canada’s railway industry, approximately half of which he was involved in dangerous goods, emergency response, and incident command.

In his new role, Art will support Itech’s emergency response teams on incidents involving dangerous goods, assist in training and mentoring of staff, and managing Itech’s ERAPs (Emergency Response Action Plans) under Transport Canada. He will also work to raise awareness of Itech’s dangerous goods response capabilities, while developing and maintaining relationships with service providers, regulatory agencies, and emergency response associations.

“Art brings a wealth of industry experience and professionalism to our team, which will reflect greatly on our dangerous goods personnel and capabilities,” states Dean Gough, VP of Environmental Operations at Itech. “Art is very well respected in the emergency response industry and we’re ecstatic to have him on board.”

Art has spent the last eight years as Senior Dangerous Goods Officer for CN Rail. He has served in roles pertaining to dangerous goods since 1994, with roles involving derailment response since 1990. Art is an industry veteran, continuously learning, with credentials including HAZMAT Technician Level 2 and Incident Command System (ICS) 100-400.

In 2012, Art was named recipient of the inaugural Torch Award by the American Chemistry Council, for his contributions to the TransCAER program in Canada throughout his career. TRANSCAER® (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) is a voluntary national outreach effort that focuses on assisting communities to prepare for and to respond to a possible hazardous materials transportation incident.
