AVA Marine | Bunker Detective goes global

The Vancouver based marine and cargo surveying firm – AVA Marine and its exclusive bunker surveying division, the ‘Bunker Detective’ is pleased to announce the opening of new business operations in Rio de Janeiro, Kuwait, Singapore and Shanghai.

Effective October 01, 2013 all our South American operations (including Mexico and Panama) will be conducted from key office in Rio de Janeiro and headed by Capt. Carlo Rolla. The office in Kuwait will be headed by Chief Engineer Mr. Tariq Iqbal, where he would be overseeing the entire bunkering and marine surveying operations in the Middle East region (UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Oman). Our office in Singapore where our major line of business is Bunker Stem and Detective surveys will be headed by Mr. Shaik Ali. This office will also be covering Malaysia. Finally our office in Shanghai will be overseeing operations all over China (Ningbo, Qingdao, Xiamen, Dalian, Tianjin, Guangzhou including secondary ports). In an opening statement about the expansion of AVA Marine & Bunker Detective, the founder and principal surveyor, Kaivan H Chinoy, said “As more and more clients have been approaching us for providing a dedicated marine inspection and bunker stem / bunker detection services in different parts of the world, so it made sense to expand our business in these regions. Kaivan Chinoy

Career Summary:

The Canadian and the US operations of AVA Marine | Bunker Detective is led by the Founder and Principal Marine Surveyor – Kaivan H. Chinoy – a qualified Mercantile Mariner and a graduate of joint Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde (Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) with an MSc Degree in ‘Technical Management of Ship Operations’. Kaivan has the combined practical experience of over 15 years in sea/shore positions and before founding AVA Marine | Bunker Detective, he was involved in extensive bunker loss control activities and marine operations such as vessel navigation, cargo handling (bulk, break-bulk, crude oil), port captaincy, P&I surveys, accident investigations, project cargo risk management and marine cargo surveying and claims.

Career Summary:

South and Latin American operations are headed by Capt. Carlo Rolla, based in our office in Rio de Janerio. Capt. Carlo possesses a rare and unique dual qualification both as a Master Mariner & Chief Engineer – from the Italian Ministry of Transportation. He has spent most of his life sailing the high seas on ocean going vessels gaining extensive experience in ship and cargo operations with in-depth expertise in high value project cargo warranty surveys; P&I condition surveys and vessel S&P evaluations.  Before engaging full time as a Chief Marine Surveyor he has worked as a marine consultant / port and terminal superintendent roles with major shipping lines in the Mediterranean, South America, West Africa and the US.

Middle East operations are headed by Tariq Iqbal from Kuwait. Tariq holds a Class I Unlimited Chief Engineer license (UK). During his seafaring days he has worked with major shipping companies like Shell &am
p; Wallem Ship Management attaining the ranks of Chief Engineer. Prior to joining us Tariq was working as an independent marine surveyor and brings with him not only extensive experience in bunker surveys & detection but is also well versed in P&I Condition Surveys, vetting inspections, project cargo risk management and marine warranty surveyor duties, ship/terminal repairs (including underwater repairs, berth demolition and reinstatement of steel piles and heavy concrete deck construction forming berth face and providing support for heavy dockside cranes). Tariq has also acted as non- exclusive surveyor for major Class Societies such as Bureau Veritas, Germanischer Lloyds.

Career Summary:

All marine and bunker operations in PRC will be headed by Capt. Wang Tao, an experienced Master Mariner with over 17 years of sea-going experience from cargo vessels to large tankers and a graduate of the prestigious Dalian Maritime University (DMU). Having acquired China’s inspection qualification certification of AQSIQ and CIA, he has worked for international surveying companies like Intertek and later, Saybolt in China for 14 years. Prior to joining us Capt Wang has been involved in extensive bunker detection inspections and involved in numerous marine surveying activities from cargo damage claims to ship inspection, Port State Control inspection and marine warranty surveys. We  believe that Capt Wang’s inclusion in our team will not only strengthen our presence in this region but with his deep understanding of Chinese market will provide a beneficial service to both the local and international clients alike.

Career Summary:

Shaik Ali brings over 30+ years of valuable experience as a highly competent marine and cargo surveyor. He has previously held senior positions such as Assistant General Manager TSKLine Agencies, Senior Manager NYKLine South Asia and Business Development Manager Unipsec Group. He also brings a broad range of marketing, business development and management skills to our team.
