TORONTO (June 21, 2012) – On June 20, torrential rains caused widespread flooding in many parts of Southern Alberta. Evacuation orders have been issued to over 75,000 residents in low-lying areas and a state of emergency has been declared for many cities, including Calgary, as water levels on the Elbow and Bow Rivers continue to rise. Environment Canada has also issued a rainfall warning for affected areas, estimating that as much as 100 millimetres more rain could fall in the next couple of days.
