Jean Laurin to Retire After 30-Years of Service
OTTAWA, ON – September 19, 2016 – ENCON Group Inc., a leading managing general agent (MGA) in Canada, today announced that David Cook, the company’s Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), will assume the role of President effective November 1, 2016. Cook succeeds Jean Laurin, who is retiring.
Cook is a 24-year veteran with ENCON and brings his extensive industry expertise to the position. In his current role as CUO, he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of ENCON’s underwriting management division and has acquired a deep knowledge of the company’s operations.

Cook joined ENCON’s actuarial department in 1992 and was appointed Vice-President and Chief Actuary for ENCON’s underwriting management division in 2002, with responsibility for aggregate loss reserving and product pricing. In 2007, he was appointed Senior Vice-President, responsible for the underwriting review of large accounts and the provision of application handling and policy issuance services to brokers. In 2009, Cook was promoted to CUO, and in 2016, he was appointed Managing Director. He has been an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) since 1996.

Laurin’s decision to retire will close a remarkable career of more than 30 years of service to the company. Since joining ENCON’s Research and Development department in 1985, he has held a number of management positions throughout the company. In 1998, he was named Executive Vice-President with responsibility for managing the underwriting management operations, and in 2001 he was named President.
