WICC Ottawa Sugar Bush Breakfast

WICC is one of the largest corporate donors of the Canadian Cancer Society. Since its inception in 1996, WICC has raised over $11.2 million dollars in support of cancer research and education.

The WICC Ottawa Committee which was created in 2010 has raised over $300K thus far.

This made it possible to subsidize a $200K innovation research grant awarded to Dr. Rebecca Auer, surgical oncologist of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and to more recently commit to sustain the funding of a $185K research grant awarded in March 2014 by the Canadian Cancer Society to Dr. Andrew Makrigiannis of the University of Ottawa. Dr. “Mak’s” team is studying whether the immune system has a role in breast cancer development. This research has the potential to lead to new ways of determining the prognosis of patients with breast cancer and to lead to new treatment options.
