The Complexities of Hoarding CTV News covers DKI seminar

June 19, 2013   by Disaster Kleenup Canada Ltd. (DKC)

DKI Canada continued  its series of education seminars in Windsor Ontario yesterday, Jun 18, 2013. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the complexities of hoarding and the unique challenges that the restoration industry faces when hoarding is left untreated.

It’s a problem Insurers, Mental Health Workers, and Restoration Companies are seeing more and more across Canada.   In most cases, when hoarding is discovered, Mental Health Response units seek out restoration professionals to clean up the mess. Sometimes, after a flood, hoarding may be apparent, which may cause serious problems when restoration professionals attempt to remedy the issue. It may take countless hours for clean up the home to occur before they can even start the mitigation process. This puts the home at risk for serious health hazards such as mould growth.

New research suggests that between 2 and 5 per cent of the Canadian population may struggle with problem hoarding.

DKI Canada would like to thank Parker Construction DKI for hosting this great event!
