U.S.-based Starr Companies is looking to further support its primary general liability accounts with the announcement that it has introduced commercial primary auto coverage in all provinces and territories across Canada.

Beyond better supporting its primary general liability accounts, “this also solidifies our position as a market of choice for Canadian businesses with U.S. cross-border exposure,” Hano Pak, chief agent and country executive for Starr, notes in a company statement Tuesday.

“Starr can offer commercial general liability and commercial auto coverage throughout Canada and the U.S. and workers’ compensation insurance in the U.S.,” Pak continues.

In early 2014, Starr Companies reported it would begin directly writing a variety of commercial lines in Canada, after a federal order from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions approved Starr Insurance & Reinsurance Ltd. By that time, Starr had already received a number of provincial licences, including in Ontario.

Starr Companies, the marketing name for the operating insurance and travel assistance companies and subsidiaries of Starr International Company, Inc., has a presence on five continents. Through its operating insurance companies, the firm offers property, casualty and accident and health insurance products, as well as a range of specialty coverages.
