Steve Pottle, a risk manager at York University, has accepted the role of president for the Risk andInsurance Management Society’s Ontario chapter (ORIMS).

Erin Magilton-Morneau, ORIMS’ immediate past president, resigned because she is “moving on to another chapter in her career which excludes her from continuing her role as president under the chapter bylaws,” Steve Pottle an ORIMS release says.

Melissa Chrystian, Sun Life Financial, will assume the role of vice-president.

Ken Iliadis has joined the Transportation Group of MEA Forensic Engineers & Scientists. Iliadis brings more than 14 years of experience in accident reconstruction, specializing in the analysis of complex collisions, occupant kinematics and road design cases. He is highly experienced in the simulation and animation of motor vehicle collisions, as well as the investigation of collisions Ken Iliadis involving bicycles and pedestrians.

Jean Marc Laurin has been appointed senior vice president of operations at Cunningham Lindsey Canada Claims Services Ltd.

Based in Montreal, Laurin will assist with Quebec operations, in addition to special projects elsewhere throughout the Canadian operation.

“Jean Marc has a wealth of operational knowledge and experience that will enrich our company in Quebec and across Canada,” Rob Seal, president and CEO of Cunningham Lindsey Canada Claims Services Ltd., said in a release. “We are excited to have him come aboard and be part of the growth of Cunningham Lindsey Canada.”

Laurin is bilingual and brings has more than 29 years of independent insurance adjusting experience.

McLarens Canada has opened four new locations in Ontario.

Lynn Brantnall has been appointed branch manager for the new Gravenhurt location.

C. Keith Wright has been appointed branch manager of the new Kingston location.

Cathy Grant-McDowell has been appointed branch manager of the new Sault Ste. Marie location.

Effective immediately, McLarens Canada has acquired Szypka, Welton & Associates in Bolton. George Szykpka has been appointed branch manager for the location.

Disaster Kleenup Canada Ltd. has announced three appointments.

Lisa Arnold has been appointed as Western region account manager, Peter Glinka is the new national operations specialist and Jae Drum joins the team as customer service representative.

Arnold will be responsible for sales in the western region, overseeing customer relations, driving sales growth and ensuring that the highest industry and company standards are met.

Glinka will take on the role of developing and implementing best practices and standard operating procedures for all Disaster Kleenup product and service offerings.

Drum will focus primarily on customer satisfaction and overall service level management initiatives to decrease timelines and identify areas for improvement to increase overall efficiency throughout the claims process.

Crawford & Company (Canada) has announced five appointments.

Santo Carbone has been appointed vice president, partnerships and regional claims centre (RCC) operations, at Crawford & Company (Canada). Carbone brings more than 27 years of claims management and operations experience to Crawford’s Mississauga RCC.

Serge Deschenes has been appointed manager of Crawford’s Quebec City branch. Deschenes, with nearly 20 years experience in the insurance industry, will manage the branch and direct its growth and strategies within the provincial marketplace.

MaryLynn Coulas has been appointed manager of Crawford’s North Bay, Timmins and Kapuskasing branches. Coulas will apply her claims and management experience to create and direct growth strategies for these three branches within the Northern Ontario marketplace.

Randy LaBrash has been appointed branch manager of Crawford’s Winnipeg branch. LaBrash has been with Crawford since 1986, working in a variety of positions including branch manager in Winnipeg, Peterborough, Toronto West and Toronto East.

David Cherrie has been appointed manager of Crawford’s Victoria, Nanaimo and Campbell River branches. Formerly the manager of the Cambridge branch, Cherrie’s cross-country move will result in a greater management role as he takes on responsibility for the Vancouver Island operations.

The Nova Scotia Chapter of the Canadian Independent Adjusters’ Association recently held its annual awards dinner.

During the evening, first vice president, Richard Van Horne, presented Kimberly Owen from Dominion of Canada General Insurance an award for obtaining the Highest Results in Essentials of Loss Adjusting.

He also presented Cara Gould of The Kings Mutual Insurance Company an award for Best Performance by a First Year CIP Student.

The Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) hosted its annual breakfast at the Arcadian Court in downtown Toronto on Nov. 4. More than 400 industry professionals gathered to hear keynote speaker Erin Anderssen speak about ‘Cancer and the Canadian Experience — Stories to Educate and Inspire.’ Anderssen, a senior writer for the Globe and Mail, published a series in 2006 entitled ‘Cancer: A Day in the Life.’ For five months, starting on June 15, 2006, Anderssen tracked the experiences of dozens of Canadian as they experienced — or died from — cancer on that day.
