Mabel Sansom, executive director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario, has announced her resignation effective when the association moves its offices to Ottawa later this year.

Crawford Adjusters Canada has announced it is splitting the role of president and chief executive officer. H.L. “Skip” Sutherland, Crawford Canada president for more than 20 years, has been doing double duty since the company purchased Adjusters Canada in January, 1999. Sutherland will remain as president, as well as a member of the Crawford Canada board of management, while Glenn Gibson has been appointed CEO. Gibson was formerly senior vice president field operations.

Crawford Canada also announced the promotion of John Smith, formerly regional director of Ontario, to national claims director.

With the establishment of its Edmonton, Alberta office at the beginning of March, Jones Brown and Associates has named Christine Lithgow and co-partners Daivd Angus and Barb Courtney to head up the new office. All three come from AON Reed Stenhouse, and combined bring over 60 years general insurance experience to the firm.

The Insurance Institute of Ontario (IIO)’s annual convocation and awards dinner was held recently at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. Graduates receiving national and provincial awards were honored, including Marina Seecharran (pictured), top graduate in Canada and winner of the Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters Prize in obtaining her associateship. Making the presentation are, from left, IIO president David Simpson and chairman Gordon Crutcher. Also honored was Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario president Arthur Despard, an Award of Merit winner for outstanding service by a volunteer of IIO.
