Odyssey Reinsurance Co. of Canada president Bob Ysseldyk and his staff gave guests a chance to live history at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto recently. The reception welcomed clients, business partners and guests to wander through the exhibits, take their turn as an NHL star, and sample an impressive food selection.

Toa Re chief agent in Canada David Wilmot welcomed clients and business partners to the annual Fall Function at Toronto’s Sheraton Hotel. The evening was filled with entertainment of all sorts as well as fine Japanese cuisine.

The 10th Annual Crawford Adjusters Canada Golf Tournament raised more than $10,000 for the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC). The event, held at Royal Woodbine Golf Club, welcomed a capacity crowd of Crawford staff and clients. Crawford CEO Glenn Gibson presented a cheque for an additional $20,000 to Jean Faulkner of WICC, representing funds raised through employee charity activities and payroll deductions this year under the banner of “Crawford Cares”.

“Team CIP” included 126 runners who participated in the 2004 CIBC Run for the Cure in early October, raising almost $22,200 for cancer research. The runners represented various Insurance Institutes and chapters from across Canada, including Regina, Winnipeg, Burlington, Niagara, Ottawa, London, and Toronto. This year’s record fund raising was four times the amount raised last year, and the efforts were spearheaded by Team CIP organizer Dawn Elliott, manager of the Insurance Institute of Ontario (IIO).

The Fellows of the CIP Society, Toronto, hosted its annual golf tournament at Diamond Back Golf Club in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The event brought together duffers from across the industry to raise funds for the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC). A cheque was presented to WICC executive director Lyna Newman for nearly $3,000.

The first annual “5K Walk/Run” to support the McGannon Foundation for Advanced Risk Management kicked off from The Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba to lead off the 29th RIMS Canada Conference. Event organizers were Joe Hardy and the Manitoba RIMS Chapter led by Mike McAndless, with FM Global as sponsor. McGannon Foundation chair Joe Restoule says the event raised over $1,800. As of June 30, the Foundation has $188,000 in net assets, and this year, two scholarships were awarded to students in post-secondary studies which include risk management: University of Calgary students Alyssa Dietrich and Erik Johnson.
