Eight catastrophe bond transactions were completed in the 2010 Q2, bringing $2.05 billion in risk capital into the market, making 2010 Q2 the second-most active second quarter on record, reported Guy Carpenter.
Of the $2.05 billion, $1.7 billion (and all but one transaction) included exposure to U.S. wind, Guy Carpenter said in its Capital Ideas.
The number of catastrophe bonds issued increased 33% between 2009 Q2 and 2010 Q2, and risk capital issued jumped by 154% from $808 million issued during 2009 Q2.
For the first half of 2010, a total of 10 catastrophe bonds were issued, generating capital of $2.35 billion. This marked an increase from 2009 H1, when nine transactions were completed, resulting in $1.38 billion issued.
From 2009 H1 to 2010 H1, risk capital issued rose by 70%.
